Antique Gessoed Italian Candlesticks/Lamp Bases For the discerning antiquer, this pair of "girandole" bases, as they were called, is a rare find. Most like them, are either in museums or in disparate states of disrepair. Only gessoed on the fronts, they were probably used in a church or private alter, done to conserve very costly expense. They usually had tin bobeches and prickets of iron which held candles. The finish is chocolate brown and cream, low luster and sublime. Today, these beauties make lamp bases, and they are easily electrified (inquire if you need that service). Or, use them as originally intended.
