Rare and very old, this pair of alter sticks has been electrified as table lamps. They were carved on a manual lathe and by hand, then painstakingly gilded. Only one side is gessoed and gilt, as these were actually part of an alter arrangement or used in a niche to light an early church. The back sides were left unadorned to save the cost of embellishment. Appropriate acanthus bobeches where the candles sit have been replaced. Lower base is also a latter addition. Otherwise, the antique portion is normal for it's age and use. Approximate Dimensions: 26 1/2"H (to top of finial) X 6"W (square base) Includes ivory cloth shades.
