Signed Paintings Brittany & Bretagne, Late 19th Century Oil Paintings on Board. A redundant title, in that Brittany and Bretagne describe the same place, this pair of small oils becons the viewer to become part of the magical bucolic scenes. The northern most Atlantic region of France combines treacherous seas and rough, rocky shores. These paintings describe just that. They were expertly rendered in the Impressionistic style of the day. Each employs a similar palette in lavender, chaulk, cream, green, and touches of accent red. The oil medium is thick, textural impasto. The signature looks to be "Tanaux," undoubtedly a worthy painter, perhaps with a wealthy tourist clientele. Approximate Dimensions: 15 3/4"L X 12 1/2"H X 5/8"D (Overall size with frame)
